Roots Soda was founded in Edinburgh in 2012 after an embarrassingly simple revelation. Why can’t fizzy drinks be true to their raw ingredients? Why can’t fizzy drinks be a little less unnerving and a little more like, well; granny’s cooking?

If granny had made us sodas, she would have prepared it on her kitchen stove using her big old stock pot. In it she would have had herbs and spices, she would have squeezed her own fruit juice and added some sugar to balance the sweet and sour of the fruit. The finished product would have had a colour that reflected the raw ingredients used, she would have been happy.

And all our grannies would have had their own secret recipe. Passed down from generation to generation. And when you went to a friend’s house, chances are, you would taste a soda unlike any other. You may not have liked them all, but what a choice there would have been.

We told our soda story on the streets of Edinburgh last year and it’s clear that fizzy drinks were a big deal in all our childhoods. Though at some point we drifted apart, afraid that this kid with the big reputation, might get us all into trouble with our doctors. Deep down though, fizzy drinks were never bad kids, they just need a little love, a little caring, someone to give them a second chance. We can see a bad boy here that just really wants to come good.

We hope you’ll think about them again as we have. Remembering all the good times you shared together as kids. We hope you’ll give them a second chance too. And we promise that if you do, you’ll remember why you loved them so much in the first place - except this time, they won’t break your heart.
